COURSE CONTENT
There will be five compulsory questions, one from each unit with an internal choice (either...or). All questions carry equal marks. All questions are compulsory.
UNIT - I : Understanding the Individual : (a) Principles of Individual Analysis. (b) Types of data to be gathered. (c) Sources of data collection. (d) Techniques of collecting individual data, their characteristics, construction and use by the guidance worker. (1) Cumulative Record. (2) Rating Scales. (3) Autobiography. (4) Questionnaire. (5) Interview. (6) Anecdotal Records. (7) Observations. (8) Case Study. (9) Check Lists. (10) Socio-metric Devices.
UNIT - II : 1. Psychological Tests : (a) Characteristics of Psychological Tests. (b) Need of psychological Tests. (c) Limitation of Psychological Tests. (d) Major classification of Psychological Tests. (e) Effective implication of Psychological Tests. (f) Caution for use of Psychological Tests.
2. Personality : (a) Nature. (b) Types of Personality. (c) Tests of personality. (d) Inventories. (e) Projective Techniques- (1) Characteristics of Projective Techniques. (2) Detailed Study of following Tests- (i) Rorschach Psycho Diagnostic Tests. (ii) C.A.T. (iii) T.A.T. (iv) S.S.R.F.T. (v) M.M.P.I. (vi) E.P.P.S. (f) uses of Personality Tests in Guidance.
UNIT - III : Intelligence, Aptitudes, Interests and Personality : 1. Intelligence : (a) Nature (b) Types of Intelligence (c) Theories of Intelligence. (d) Types of Intelligence Tests. (e) Measurement of Intelligence - various Tests. (f) Uses of Intelligence Tests in guidance.
2. Aptitudes : (a) Nature (b) Types of Aptitudes (c) Types of Aptitudes tests. (d) Measurement of Aptitudes. (e) Uses of Aptitude Tests in guidance.
3. Interest : (a) Nature (b) Types of Interest (c) Test and Inventories. (d) Uses of Interest Test in guidance.
4. Aptitudes : (a) Nature (b) Types of Attitude. (c) Types of Attitude tests. (d) Measurement of Attitude Tests. (e) Uses of Attitude Tests in guidance.
UNIT - IV : 1. Understanding the world of work- (a) Nature complexity and continual change in world of work. (b) Role of various personnel and agencies in helping the individual understand the world of work-teachers, parents, school, community and other information agencies. (c) Job analysis-Meaning, outline of job analysis and its techniques. (d) Uses of job analysis in guidance.
2. Understanding the world of work- (a) Factors affecting career development. (b) Theories of career development. (c) Career guidance evaluation models.
UNIT - V : 1. Techniques of Counseling- (a) Directive (b) Non-directive (c) Eclectic Counseling (d) Analytic Therapy. (e) Client Centered Therapy. (f) Play Therapy. (g) Psychodrama. (h) Socio-drama. 2. Use of test results in counseling. 3. New trends in counseling.
SESSIONAL WORK : 1. Preliminary job analysis of any one job. 2. Case study and counseling of one student and submitting its report. 3. Administration and interpretation of any one of the following tests on two students- (a) T.A.T. or C.A.T., Picture perception test or S.S.R.F. Test. (b) D.A.T. or G.A.T. (c) Bhatia Battery of Performance Test of Intelligence. (d) Test of Study Habits and Attitudes. 4. Preparation of Report Sheet for various tests. 5. Comparing of Psychological profiles of the students pursuing different academic and professional courses.
